In memory of Debbie we want to increase the number of registered donors and get these people to talk to their families and friends about their decision to "give life".
Our aim is to increase donation rates so people awaiting transplant do not die waiting.
Our mission is to:

tell people about the pressing need for organ donors

encourage people to think about registering to become an organ donor

inform people how to register to be an organ donor

|
|
let people know that if they die, their family will be asked about their wishes even if they are a registered donor and their family are the ones who will decide

encourage people to discuss their decision with their family so that if they decide to “give life”, their gift goes on living

Right now, there are almost 2000 Australians awaiting an organ transplant. There are thousands more Australians who love them.
We have decided as a community that organ transplantation is a treatment option. Our medical teams are leaders in transplantation medicine. Why then are so many Australians dying on organ transplant waiting lists?
Last year in Australia, only 198 Australians were organ donors, 39 of these generous and caring people were Queenslanders. Debbie was a donor and as a result of her gift, 2 people now have sight.
Australia’s rate of donation has recently been described as “shameful”! Lets all help make a difference!
Did you know that if you wish to be an organ donor - you need to register your wish on the Australian Organ Donor Register. To register, fill out the form attached to the brochure or register on line at www.medicareaustralia.gov.au and click on the Australian Organ Donor Register icon.
If you are correctly registered you will have received a card from Medicare.
Did you know that your family can override you decision to be a donor - you need to clearly tell them you want to live life then give life! 40% of all families contacted say No.
By registering to become an organ donor you can make the greatest gift one human being can give to another – the gift of life.
